Norman Island is a privately owned island that does not have any permanent occupants. Located near the southernmost edge of the British Virgin Islands archipelago, it is said to have served as inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's pirate tale 'Treasure Island.'

When people talk about islands, they always talk about white sands, clear waters, and the fun water activities they can make. But these are not the only things the Canary Islands have to offer.

Although it lacks a significant activity center and requires a lengthy, expensive flight from the mainland, Chile's Easter Island (annexed by Chile in 1888) is sparsely developed, has a small Polynesian population, and displays some of the world's strangest artifacts in a barren, volcanic landscape alongside a bizarre, apparently self-destructive history.
