Things You Need To Know Before You Take The Cap Ferrat Walking Trail

148Shares
147.6KViews

This hike is really special because of the contrast between the lush green of Cap Ferrat and the blue of the sea. Fishing boats used to come to the beach resort of St. Jean Cap Ferrat on the eastern side of the Cap Ferrat peninsula. The tour of Cap Ferrat walking trail winds its way around the edge of the peninsula and alongside numerous millionnaires’ villas.

Hiking Trail Overview

The coastal trail goes along the limestone cliffs that kept the lighthouse at the end of the peninsula safe in the old days. The lighthouse was built in 1827, but it was destroyed in 1944 during the Second World War. It was rebuilt in 1951, and now it stands again.

In Saint-Jean, a beautiful little town that used to be a fishing port, the hike starts. There is a walk that goes around the whole peninsula and ends back at the town beach. You'll enjoy the wildness of the coast. The Cap Ferrat hotel is the only thing that really stops it, but it's still pretty private.

During your hike, keep an eye out for divers looking for underwater wonders in the sparkling water and fishermen who are patiently waiting for their big catch!

Route Description

When you get out of the harbor in St. Jean-Cap-Ferrat, walk up the shopping street and then turn left on Avenue Claude Vignon. Continue on a large cement path until you reach the end of the peninsula. You'll see the gardens and swimming pool of the Grand Hotel of Cap Ferrat at the end of the peninsula.

Follow the path that goes through the rocks until you come to a steep staircase that leads to the light house. It's then time to walk above the waves on the western side of the peninsula. This is what you should do next.

To get to the beach, take the path around a building that's right next to the sea. Taking some stairs up from the beach, follow the path until you come to a short stretch of road.

When you get to D25, be careful! There is a pedestrian shortcut next to the tourist office that will take you back down to the town center and the harbor.

Do You Need A Map?

Even though you could get a map from the tourist office, the walks are well-marked. Getting lost is impossible.

What About Refreshments?

Take food and water. You won't be able to get food or water along the way, except for the beach showers and the beach restaurants that are open. There are a lot of places to eat a sandwich, though.

What About Toilets?

During the months of June to September, Paloma Plage beach has a lot of things you can do. The walks are very open, and there aren't many places to hide in the trees.

What Is The Best Season?

Tour de cap and walk-in Saint-Hospice should be done in fall and spring. Summer can be very hot because the walk is in the sun. Nothing stops you from taking a break at the beach, though! Maurice-Rouvier is a promenade that faces east in the morning, which makes it more sunny.

Final Words

One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of the French Riviera coastline is to spend a few hours walking along the coastal paths of Cap Ferrat, which is on the coast near Cannes. There are 14 kilometers of paths that go around and through the peninsula. The scenery changes all the time, so it's a good idea to stay on the path.
