Is Australasia The New Oceania?

Australasia is a geographical region that includes Australia, New Zealand, and a number of neighboring islands. When applied in a variety of situations, such as geopolitically, physiologically, and ecologically, the term encompasses a number of geographically distinct but connected locations that are slightly different from one another.

According to some, Australasia is a part of Oceania or the same thing as Oceania. In the Pacific Ocean, it is made up of Australia, New Zealand, the island of New Guinea, and a number of neighboring islands to the north and east of Australia.

But Oceania includes a greater number of Pacific islands, including Hawaii, Guam, Melanesia, French Polynesia, the Marquesas Islands, the Cook Islands, the Samoas, and Tonga, as well as Australia (the only continent involved), New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and possibly all of Indonesia and Malaysia's islands.

Do We Say Oceania Or Australasia?

The Pacific Ocean is a geographical region; Australia is a continent that is a part of Oceania, and New Zealand is a geographical region. Oceania is divided into four subregions: Australasia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Australasia is the largest of the four subregions. Australasia is made up of two continents: Australia (sometimes known as Australia-New Guinea) and Zealandia, which is a submerged continent that lies between the two continents (aka Tasmantis).

What Is Australasia Called Now?

Oceania. In total, there are 14 countries in Oceania, which is comprised of the continents of Australasia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Oceania is also known as the Pacific Ocean. Scientists have been discussing whether the underwater landmass on which New Zealand is located should be recognized as a continent, which they propose to call Zealandia, for some time.

Australasia Or Oceania

Australasia is a geographical word that has never had a definite definition and that was initially used to refer to a continental mass believed to exist south of the Asian continent. When used in its broadest sense, it has been taken to include, in addition to Australia (with Tasmania) and New Zealand, the Malay Archipelago, the Philippines, Melanesia (including New Guinea and the island groups lying east and southeast of it, as well as New Caledonia and Fiji), Micronesia, and Polynesia (which includes the scattered groups of islands extending eastward from the above groups to about longitude 130°).

Historically, the Hawaiian Islands and even Antarctica have been grouped together under the umbrella term "Australasia," however the region is now commonly considered to be coterminous with Oceania.

Conclusion

I think this is the biggest debate ever in our lives. What is your opinion about Australasia or Oceania? What do you call it Australasia or Oceania? Let us know in the comment section below and share your opinions.
