April Festival Calendar 2019

5 – 22 April

HUNGARY Budapest Spring Music Festival Budapesti Tavaszi Fesztivál – all sorts of arts, music, drama, dance, exhibitions, poetry and kid’s stuff, local and international, in a fine European city. Budapest Pictures

8 – 13 April

AUSTRIA, Mayrhofen, Snowbombing Festival – a week long live music event, with wild bands and world-class DJs in a fantasy alpine setting. This ‘Ibiza in the Snow’ is regarded by many as ‘the Greatest Show on Snow’. It was the UK Festival Award’s ‘Best Overseas Festival’ winner in 2010.

2 – 14 &
19 – 21 April

USA, California, Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival – 2 weekends of 3-day festivals featuring many genres of music in a desert; with several stages and a large campground this is regarded as one of the USA’s best music events.

25 April – 5 May

USA, New Orleans, Louisiana New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival – forget Mardi Gras if you just want to relax and enjoy some of the best live music in the country.

USA, New Orleans, Louisiana New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival – forget Mardi Gras if you just want to relax and enjoy some of the best live music in the country.

1 – 6 May

ENGLAND, Gloucestershire, Cheltenham International Jazz Festival – the UK’s top jazz fest in a lovely location.

10 May – 16 June

AUSTRIA, Vienna Festival (Wiener Festwochen) – this 5 week event offers a wide range of arts, especially music, naturally, but also dance and theatre, sometimes challenging pieces, all set in magnificent buildings. Vienna Pictures

RUSSIA, St Petersburg, the White Nights Festival in gorgeous, romantic and endlessly light St Pete. The highlights are ‘the Scarlet Sails celebration with spectacular fireworks at the end of a school year and the ‘Stars of the White Nights’ (26 May – 23 July 2018) – a series of opera and ballet performances, the most important part of the festival.

12 May – 4 June

CZECH REPUBLIC Prague Spring International Music Festival – one of Europe’s best classical music events, with some of world’s leading soloists and orchestras in outstandingly medieval Prague.

17 – 19 May

USA, Las Vegas, Electronic Daisy Carnival (EDC) – a huge electronic dance music festival held outdoors, this is the biggest organised rave in the world. EDC is driven by DJs and massive sounds systems along with extraordinary lighting effects including fireworks. Note that many participants wear appropriately wild and outrageous outfits. Weird is good. This is not a band/artist/musician event. Only DJs, but the best in the world. 

23 – 27 May

USA, California, Strawberry Music Festival – one of US’s most popular music jamborees, used to be held twice a year at the picturesque Camp Mather on the edge of Yosemite National Park, though last year May’s Strawberry took place at Nevada Country Fairgrounds in Grass Valley and Fall festival was held during Labor Day Weekend (30 Aug. – 3 Sep. 2018 ) at Tuolumne Country.

17 – 26 May

ENGLAND, Somerset, Bath, International Music Festival – classical and other musical styles in this, the most classical of all UK cities.

29 May – 15 June

ISRAEL, Israel Festival (of music and performing arts), in Jerusalem. Dance, opera, drama and music from some of the world’s most talented artists. Israel Pictures Guide
