Playa Del Carmen Mexico is one of my favourite destinations, I have always felt safe and have enjoyed all that this area offers. But recent stories in the media about escalating crime with drug cartels in Cancun including shootings in broad day light have me wondering what the future holds for this area. Tourism which is a vital part of the economy could be devastated if crime and corruption are let to run rampant.

just got back from cozumel and stayed the night in playa del carmen. i was out at night and even shopped at night...there is no crime. the only crime thats on TV is in the border towns. i read a comment not to look in people's eyes...whatever! i think thats rude...people were friendly..but they do raise the price on items...i would def go back but maybe to another place in mexico to try something diff....

as i am writing this i am about to leave playa del carmen. THs town sucks it has no character and it is mostly tourists shops and fat stupid american tourists who need to learn a thing or two about how rich mexico is it. This country is an important part of the world economy and its GDP (PPP) is 1.555 trl. No poor nation has figures like that. If you want a beautiful town go see volladolid or campeche..
