Land of Ice and Fire [families]:
In spite of its northerly location, the Gulf Stream keeps Iceland's temperature moderate and allows our visitors a comfortable 7 days to gawp at this volcanic mass of glaciers, waterfalls, hot springs, geysers, whales and bird life - on foot, by boat and even by snow-mobile.
And there will still be time to see Reykjavik and bathe in Iceland's famous thermal springs!
Iceland Escapades [short break, multi-active]:
This short 4 day tour offers a mix of unusual experiences: the opportunity to see the swirling Northern Lights [weather permitting], ride a Super jeep into the surreal volcanic landscape, have a bizarre bathe in the bubbling waters of the Blue Lagoon, or even try a little snowmobiling.
Serious Superjeeps [family holiday]:
A wild 4 day ride
from Reykjavik in outrageous 'Superjeeps' on an adventure into the valley of Thorsmork - a landscape of glacial moraine and lakes crackling with ice. On the return leg we drive across lava fields and, weather permitting, we may view the dazzling light show of the 'Aurora Borealis'.
An optional activity is a tour of the region's natural wonders, including the towering waterfall of Gullfoss and Geysir, the spouting hot spring after which all others are named. Alternatively, if the snow is suitable, how about a snowmobile ride up in the hills? Then round off your adventure with a dip in the Blue Lagoon: bathtime will never be the same again...
Spitsbergen, Greenland & Iceland on a comfortable Expedition Ship:
Spitsbergen & the Greenland Sea:
Before heading west, we explore the Arctic nature and scenic wilderness of Spitsbergen on the search for walrus and the mighty Polar Bear. Possible areas to explore include Krossfjorden or Hornsund. We cross the Greenland Sea keeping a vigilant watch for wildlife, late summer icebergs and pack ice from the decks and observation lounge. This journey highlights the contrast and change in the Arctic.
Wild Greenland:
The ship steams as far north as the ice allows before hugging the coastline towards Iceland - and every day is a new adventure as we explore this remote and spectacular National Park with landings, trekking and Zodiac cruises. Inuit villages, unique wildlife and remote destinations are some of the highlights on this truly unforgettable voyage through the Arctic. It is a rugged world with tundra, fjords, icebergs, waterfalls and glaciers but the tenacity of mankind is seen in remnants of explorer's huts, Greenlandic (Inuit) settlements and the Danish Sled Dog Patrol. Slowly moving south, explore along the eastern coast of Greenland. In this remote and untouched landscape looking for wildlife such as walruses, seals, narwhals, polar bears, muskoxen, wolves, foxes, ermine, Arctic hares, lemmings, and a variety of birds. We will board our Zodiac boats to get a closer look at some of the birdlife and to walk in the tundra. Our southward journey will culminate in Scoresbysund which is one of the largest fjord systems in the world with imposing granite walls, mountain peaks, glaciers and icebergs beautifully carved by the glaciers. From here we cross the Denmark Straits to Iceland.
