Austria's empire is a monumental story, gone but not forgotten by tourists gaping at the mass of gothic, baroque and rococo royal relics on the streets of Vienna or Salzburg, in the magnificent museums or listening to present day concerts by long-dead Vienna inhabitants - Mozart, Strauss, Brahms and Beethoven to name but a few.
The central Europe climate offers a comfortable heat in the summer and acceptable cold in winter, encouraging year-round outdoor activities, particularly summer hiking and winter skiing.

 

Along the Blue Danube [Cycling]:
A 10 day tour on the famous Blue Danube Trail between Passau and Vienna, biking one of Europe's most famous bike routes with varied landscapes, cultures and ancient sites, this is definitely the most interesting length of the Danube, passing lovely farms, stunning castles, gothic abbeys, sweeping vineyards and lush green plains as we ride from one pretty hotel to the next. 95% asphalt, almost totally flat, 48 kms average ride per day. Group size 12-16.

Vineyards and Steppes [Cycling, Hungary - Slovenia - Austria]
10 days cycling through three countries: Austria, Slovenia and Hungary- Grade B, moderate - 305km/7 days [average of 43km cycling a day], along the Mur Cycle Path, through Slovenian winelands and Lake Balaton to Budapest. Enjoy local wines and the chance of a thermal spa bath, discover medieval Graz, Budapest's old town and castle.
