Asia, Cambodia, Angkor

Bhutan | Cambodia | China | India | Indonesia | Japan | Laos | Malaysia | Nepal | Singapore | Syria | Tibet | Thailand | Turkey | Vietnam

Asia is packed with incredible sights from China's Great Wall and Beijing to Nepal's Everest and Khatmandu, Japan's Kyoto, Cambodia's Angkor, India's Rajasthan, Thailand's beaches and Bangkok, Indonesia's Balinese rice terraces and strange music, Russia's Moscow onion domes and blinis, Myanmar's golden stupas, lovely locals but appalling 'government', Bhutan's mountain monasteries, Jordan's rosy Petra, Yemen's dusty mud forts, Turkey's shining mosques, palaces and fairy chimneys...

'Asian music sounds as if a truck full of wind chimes collided with a stack of empty oil drums during a birdcall contest.'

Asia extends all the way from Russia and the Arctic in the north to Indonesia and the Indian Ocean in the south, Egypt's Sinai to the west [in other words Turkey and the Middle-East are in Asia!] and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

If travelling by land ensure that you plan a time-efficient circular holiday; but if you are going to travel by plane then avoid single tickets as they are a more expensive way to get around. In South-East Asia it's generally considered easiest to tour anti-clockwise from Thailand, through Cambodia into Vietnam and Laos.

n.b. Bangkok is an easy place to get visas for other SE Asian countries, especially if you get one of the Khao San Road travel operators to do it for you! It may even be cheaper than doing it yourself.
