Why holiday in Vietnam?

Vietnam makes a terrific winter-sun holiday target, rich in culture, big soft beaches, excellent cuisine, amiable locals and irresistible shopping.
The French colonial cities of Hanoi and Saigon (aka Ho Chi Minh City) are attractive and interesting while the four UNESCO World Heritage Sites are fascinating.
However, traffic is chaotic and due to the country's long, skinny shape, domestic travel is slow while thievery is not uncommon, especially in the cities where motorcycle-taxis have a bad name.
