Why holiday in Jordan?

Jordan is home to friendly and welcoming people, and while it's history is huge the country is quite small, easy to travel around and low cost if you avoid the classic tourist hotels.
Sights are spectacular: Petra, Wadi Rum, Jerash and the Dead Sea are a starting point for tourism here and self drive is not at all difficult, even crossing from Israel.

But, Jordan's desert is flat and drab other than the extraordinary bits around Wadi Rum, Amman and Aquaba are plain, tourist infrastructure is undeveloped.
