Syria John the Baptist in the Umayyad Mosque

The shrine of John the Baptist in the Umayyad Mosque.

St John was known to Muslims as the Prophet Yehia. In the 8th century a coffin containing John's head was found under the basilica floor during rebuilding works and was reburied in some style in this prayer hall.
