Lausanne Map
Switzerland

Lausanne, Switzerland.
The tourist areas of of Lausanne are conveniently compact and more-or-less covered by this map. The dotted red lines encompass the Old Town but no visit to Lausanne would be complete without a trip on/to Lake Geneva [aka Lac Leman].
Another more strenuous trip would be
a hike up to the Sauvabelin Tower in the Sauvabelin Forest, for massive views of the city and the Alps. It's north of the old town and just north of the Fondation de l'Hermitage that is visible centre top of the map. Bus #16 stops at Lac de Sauvabelin.
Unfortunately Lausanne is built on a fairly steep gradient so trudging up and down to the lake shore [Ouchy] from the Old Town [Riponne] or party central [Flon], would be a tiresome hike but for the terrific new M2 Metro system [finished in 2008]. This robo-driven, mini-train runs runs up and down the hillside - as well as along it - and is well-worth getting a day-pass on it unless you have thighs of steel. It is not marked on the map but basically runs under Avenue d'Ouchy. Click the link below for more information.

Lausanne-Flon, the main station of the M2 line, Lausanne metro.
Free Cycling! And here's an innovative offer any able-bodied traveler cannot refuse, borrow a bike for the day free! Avaiable every day from May thru October from Place de la Riponne [the stop just above Lausanne-Flon] or Renens Railway Station.
