Baobab trees can be found all over Madagascar but mostly in the drier western areas.

These 'Bottle Trees' are near Morondava and may be up to 3,000 years old.

Actually the baobab is not a tree but a monster succulent, storing water in its trunk.

Give Malagasy folk another ten years of uncontrolled slash and burn cultivation and Madagascar will have as many trees as Easter Island. Which was about 18 at the last count. See poverty and deforestation.
