India Map | India Pictures | India Beaches | India Tours | Rajasthan Pictures | Rajasthan Map So...there's the 'White City' of Udaipur, the 'Pink City' of Jaipur and now here's the 'Blue City' of Jodhpur, conveniently located on the edge of the Thar Desert, halfway between Jaipur and the 'Golden City' of Jaisalmer. Mehrangarh is the largest fort in India and a place that offers an excellent museum of military trivia and Maharaja's toys as well as that superb view. Many Brahmin live on the north side of Jodhpur and like to paint their house in shades of blue, we don't know why. Do you? If so please tell us!
Jodhpur, with the Umaid Bhawan Palace on the distant outskirts. The massive, Maharaja's 347-room, art-deco, Umaid Bhawan is these days in large part a five star hotel, in small part a museum and in middling part a grand residence for the current Maharaja of Jodhpur.
The Jaswant Thada, an ornate Maharaja's marble memorial from 1899.
Moti Mahal in the monstrous Mehrangarh Fort. Started in 1458, Mehrangarh Fort houses more than just an impregnable stronghold. It is also home to the Maharaja's Pearl Audience Hall, the Moti Mahal, an extensive museum of military and Maharaja accoutrements, his pleasure chamber, the Phool Mahal, his delicate harem quarters and the pretty little Chamunda Mataji Temple.
