Individual tourists can spurn the flight or train from Luxor to Aswan [and vice versa] in favour of car transport, though due to Islamic fundamentalism which is especially strong in this part of Egypt, local police insist on foreigners travelling in a fast and escorted convoy. Nile Cruises: most Egyptian cruise ships travel the Luxor-Aswan route which is safe, scenic and terminates at two of Egypt's most important towns. A week long cruise is about average.
