Egypt's attractions are awesome, all the way from Cairo's great pyramids down through the desert past the original smaller pyramids at Saqquara, alongside the Nile, pausing momentarily at monumental Edfu temple, passing more time around the magnificent ancient relics of Luxor and then moving on to tranquil Aswan with a brief shufti at Abu Simbel.
And the pace doesn't let up there...it's then across the Red Sea to the Sinai desert Bedouin, charm-free but comfortable Sharm el Sheikh and neo-hippy dippy Dahab.
The people are friendly and entertaining if you get a chance to relax with them while Cairo's shopping is incredible - though you have to learn to haggle.
The history of the country is staggering, the sky is almost always blue, deserts surround everything, scuba and snorkelling in the Red Sea are world class, and Egypt's not expensive. What's not to like? [Well, the hustlers for one thing. And the flies...]
