Canterbury can be easily visited on a day trip from London via one of the train stations, West Canterbury (at the top of the picture) or East Canterbury at the bottom. The journey should take 1-2 hours depending on connections, strikes, security alerts and staff 'sickness'.
The walk into the city is easy from stations and will take no more than 10 minutes.
Canterbury attractions:
•
viewing ancient Tudor timber housing - a fair amount is on or near the High Street (coloured purple, also known as St Peter's St and St George's St) running diagonally across the centre of the map.
•
being gently rowed or punted along the weedy little rivers.
•
watching an edited but still bawdy version of Chaucer's Tales.
•
strolling the gardens.
•
investigating a couple of entertaining museums, especially the Roman.
•
visiting Canterbury Cathedral (which is massive and could easily take a couple of hours depending on tolerance to religious artefacts).
