Beautiful though the lake undoubtedly is, it's a very long drive to get there, the altitude is high so the brain goes fuzzy and the cold kicks in viciously, and after El Tatio's altiplano drive Miscanti and its neighbour Lake Miniques [that you're not even allowed to walk around] don't have much to offer other than a chilly lakeside stroll [Miscanti] that costs a few bucks.
Tours visit to little nothing-to-declare town of Socaire on the way to the lakes. For what purpose exactly? It's a mystery to us.

So ends San Pedro de Atacama, a must-see with some splendid sights, but no shortage of low-value, high cost trips if you don't pick and choose.
