Tigre Pictures

Tigre,
30kms north of Buenos Aires and a capital, day-trip getaway.
A
one-time playground for affluent Porteños [citizens of BA],
Tigre now appeals to a wider market with upwards of 80,000 visitors
hitting the town every weekend, many on frequent - but crowded - trains
from BA's Retiro station.
Tigre is usually a calm riverside town, though the influx of holidaymakers
at the weekend means that traffic is heavy and entertainments busy,
so foreign travellers would do well to visit during the week, especially
on a Friday if interested in trying out the sub-Disneyland amusement
park of Parque de la Costa.
Attractions other than the Parque are boat cruises around the the
Delta del Parana - the Rio de la Plata and some of its tributaries
- pleasant walks, rowing, strolling the Mercado de Frutos that in
fact sells everything from fruit to tourist souvenirs and gambling
at the Nuevo Trilenium Casino.
It is possible to hire canoes or kayaks for individual or guided trips
around this huge area of reeds, trees, islands, riverside restaurants,
traditional villages, expensive homes, gardens and boats, boats, boats.
But don't forget to take the mosquito repellent!

Parque
de la Costa is
definitely a juvenile attraction so kids will enjoy it but adults
may have some trouble with the general seedy silliness. Open
Fri-Sun all year, Wed-Sun in January and February [i.e. summer], tickets
are for one
day so get there early. Click for more Argentina Pictures outside
