The population of mountain gorillas in this area has increased by 17%
since the last census in 1989 [reported January 2004], thanks mainly to
efforts by the International Gorilla Conservation Program (IGCP).
Gorilla Safaris to Vocanoes National Park are not available via DRC/Zaire
at present, but accessible via Rwanda.
The general exertion required by visitors to see the mountain gorillas
and the kind of at-home lifestyle the gorillas lead will not differ radically
whether in Rwanda, Uganda or DRC/Zaire.
