Why travel to Dallas - Fort Worth?
The Dallas area is hardly a touristic marvel but if you're in the area anyway this is the place so see the location surrounding the mysterious end of John F Kennedy, for cowboy culture, guns and steak. Oh yes, and shop-till-you-drop nirvana.

Downsides:
- the streets are home to many lost souls.
- crime is no stranger here, so don't wander alone at night and stick with the touristy places, such as Downtown's West End and North Dallas. Stay away from South Dallas at any time.
- summers are steaming hot.

Dallas climate:
Best: May-June or Sept-Oct.
Okay: winters, chilly but pleasant with occasional snow or summers if you are heat-tolerant.
Worst: March-April [rainy and infrequent but severe storms].

Main Attractions:

Dallas
During the 1970's oil brought great wealth to the state and this is where the rich oilmen hung out.
Dealy Plaza: infamy is to be found around the Sixth Floor Museum from where Lee Harvey Oswald may have shot John F Kennedy, but if you don't believe that you will be well served by the Conspiracy Museum.
Texas Stadium: if you have any interest in American Football or cheerleaders then a visit to Texas Stadium to see the the Dallas Cowboys football team is a must; the buxom beauties here are big nationwide.
Fair Park Historic Landmark:
art deco architecture, several museums and the Cotton Bowl Stadium where the Texas State Fair [in Fall/Autumn] is held.
White Rock Lake, a large and lovely, tranquil park in East Dallas.
For kids: Dallas World Aquarium [Downtown], Dallas Aquarium [Fair Park], Dallas Zoo, and Thrill Rides Amusement Park [just north of Downtown].

Arlington
Two large theme parks: Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor [water park] just across the street. Not open in winter.

Fort Worth
One hour east of Dallas is a city made wealthy by steak and patronage, but it does have a little more to offer the traveller than a good T-bone.
Sundance Square: visit this impressive philanthropic donation downtown for art and architecture, and also the nearby Water Gardens.
Cultural District: excellent museums, see Museums and Galleries below.

Arts and Culture:
Museums and Galleries: Museum of Art, Museum of Natural History, Women's Museum and African-American Museum, Dallas; Sid Richardson Collection of Western Art, Kimbell Art Museum, Amon Carter Museum, Museum of Science and History, Modern Art Museum and Stockyards Museum, Fort Worth.
Classical Music and Dance:
Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Theatre, the Dallas Opera at the Majestic Theatre.

Cuisine:
Dallas will stuff you silly with restaurant choice, especially Deep Ellum and Uptown where you can get most international dishes but steak and chili-Mex mixes are the local specialty.

Nightlife and Entertainment:
Live Music - lots of gigs in Deep Ellum, especially for Texas blues and country.

Festivals and Parades:
January, Southwestern Stock Show and Rodeo, Fort Worth.
