One
very long stretch of undeveloped soft sand, backed by dunes and a
dirt road make up Naxos' beast beach. The sand and water are perfect
and crowds are somewhere else, walking in the mountains probably since
most visitors seem to be of a sturdy Germanic persuasion.
Some pleasant tavernas lurk on the other side of the track, as well
as a few small, discreet domatia [holiday apartments] and camping
sites.
The Maragas end hosts more tavernas while the Plaka end sees the nudists.
Public buses will get you here eventually but the road between the
main town and the beach is flat and not too far so a bicycle would
do just as well.
